Why Should I Volunteer?
Volunteers are a key component of our school's success.  Osuna would not be the great school that it is without the countless hours of service volunteers provide to our students and teachers.  Our volunteers:
  • serve as PTA Executive Officers and committee chairs,
  • chaperone field trips,
  • help in the library,
  • help at Jog-a-Thon and other fundraising events,
  • help with fun community building events like the Fall Carnival,
  • help in the classroom,
  • organize classroom parties,
  • and so much more!

"When do I have time to volunteer?" you ask yourself.  "I am too busy being a parent!"  Volunteering is important for all of us. Volunteering at your child's campus may be one of the most important, life-altering things you can ever do for your child.

Children Benefit

Researchers have been studying the effects parent attitudes and actions have on their children's academic success for more than 30 years. The results have been consistent. When parents are involved in their children's education at home, they do better in school. And when parents are involved in school, children go farther in school and the schools they go to are better (Henderson & Berla).

A Significant Difference

One study found that students from families with above-average parent involvement were 30% more successful (in test scores, teacher ratings, retention rates, GPA) in school than those with below-average involvement.

Teachers and Staff Benefit, Too

We're talking about our teachers and staff--the very teachers and staff who nurture your child everyday throughout the school year.  We need your helping hands and smiling faces on our campus to help lighten the load for our staff, giving them more time in the classroom.  We appreciate your time and talents!

So Do Parents

When parents become involved in their children's education, the parents are more likely to:

  • be more confident at school,
  • be more confident as parents and their ability to help their children learn,
  • be held in higher esteem by teachers and have them expect more from their children,
  • and enroll in continuing education to advance their own schooling.
Start Early

When parents get involved early in their children's education, the results are more pronounced and long-lasting. Elementary school is the perfect time to get involved.

Consider Yourself Asked!

The number one reason people don't volunteer is because no one asked them. Well, we are asking you to be involved! Your time and knowledge are needed and wanted by our staff and students. The diversity of our community and the experiences you can share with our students are valuable to us. Whether it's a little time or a lot of time, whether it is on campus or at home, whether you are a  mom, dad, grandparent, or community member, WE NEED YOU!
